Front Runner Roof Top Tent – Low Profile, Lightweight
$ 94.59
- Before you buy a RTT, please know what you want before buying something you might regret it later down the road.Super light Roof Top Tent (RTT) and the lightest compared to the rest out there. And that’s THE main reason why I bought this. I’m 5’3” and somewhat strong, not what I was in my 20’s, and want to be able to mount and dismount the tent by myself. Imagine carrying a 115 lbs RTT in the weirdest angle or position possible? This thing is sub 90 lbs.I live in Southern California and anything 400 miles from here have mild weather throughout the seasons. It doesn’t drop below 0 or higher than 115 degrees. With that said, I’ve been in weather between 40-114 degrees with this tent. The tent holds up very well with the awnings in place, even with moderate winds ~20 MPH. Scary as hell with the winds howling all around you, but it’s sturdy.The fabric is a “special” Oxford tent fabric 400D and can withstand most things. I stormed through wet weather with no issues at all. The insulated aluminum base is solid, but it does get cold in colder nights. It has lots of zip up windows with another layer of mesh windows to allow fresh air to cycle throughout in those hot summers. There’s also a top vent to circulate hot air out too. Not sure if this would hold up in snow.It comes with a 2 inch covered mattress that’s actually comfortable to lay on throughout the day. Just keep in mind that the mattress is meant to be smaller than the interior of the tent. Simply push the mattress all the way down to the other end of the ladder so that the empty space can stow your bags, shoes, or whatever.There is a bit of prep and setup you need to do before mounting it to your vehicles load bars. EVERYTHING* is included!!!Take the tent out of the box has got to be the hardest thing in this setup. If you have room indoors with carpet, it’s easy. I was working outside where I didn’t want to slide and ruin my new tent on the the concrete patio floor. So I got creative and ripped the cardboard box apart at the nailed down seam. Don’t use a blade! It will cut through and damage your tent, so I used my bare (bear-like) hands to rip it apart. Once open, you’ll find all the parts. I placed the tent on a wooden table covered with a blanket. Just follow the well documented instructions included in the packaging.The 2 modifications I did in my application was to add holes to secure the ladder in the closed position and to have longer mounting plates for my load bars.The ladder in the closed position simply allows the ladder to slide out easy, maybe too easy. So I simply marked the holes in the closed position and drilled holes. Now whenever it’s closed, it’s locked.I have a Land Rover LR4 and the load bars are super wide, about 3 inches wide. The included mounting plates can only accommodate about 2 – 2.5 inches. So I went to Home Depot to get a 1/4” steel plate by 2 feet long. I measured, cut out 4 pieces, drilled holes, and spray painted them with rust-oleum rust resistant paint. The bolts included are fairly long and works perfectly.I also bought the annex, tent shower skirt, or whatever you want to call it. It attaches the aluminum extrude without any issues.
