- Description The best oil pump for Pontiac V8’s One nice convenient package including high volume 60 lb pump, 3/4″” screen, hardened shaft, gasket, bolts, and lock washers (bolts will be either gold or black plated) Pump is high volume – uses 3/4″” tube inlet screen – original non-performance Pontiac pumps used 5/8 tube – those are no longer made Pump is 60 lbs pressure recommended up to 6000 RPM in most engines this pump was used in performance Pontiacs including Ram Air both Ram Air III and Ram Air IV 421 389 4 bbl and tripower All GTO and Firebird 400’s Used in most Pontiacs V8’s – most popular choice Shaft is US made Melling hardened shaft – no need for other expensive ones.
